🌦️December 2025: mild, calm and variable in quality

Welcome to the monthly overview of MeteoTielt - Weather Station Tielt.

December 2025 was predominantly mild, relatively dry and often cloudy, with varying wind conditions.

The month had a clear division: achangeable, wet and windy start, followed by acalmer, drier and slightly fresher second half.

Below you will find a complete overview of the temperature, precipitation, wind, solar radiation, UV index, and air quality for this month.

🌡️ Temperature – Mild with limited winter cold

December 2025 was clearly milder than normal.

Especially in the first half of the month, double figures were regularly achieved. gehaald.

  • Highest temperature: approx. 14 °C (early December)

  • Lowest minimum temperature: approx.−3.5 °C( end of month)

  • Onlylimited and short-lived night frost

  • Large daily fluctuations, typical for mild winter air

➡️ Winter weather largely did not occur; December often felt autumnal to the touch

🌧️ Precipitation – Wet start, then notably dry

Precipitation was unevenly distributed over the month.

  • The majority fell during the first 10 days

  • Especially 6–8 December were distinctly wet

  • After that followed a long dry period

  • Only light precipitation in the last days

➡️ Despite a wet start, December ended as a relatively dry winter month.

🌬️ Wind – Regularly present, without storms

The wind played a role mainly in the first half of December.

  • Average wind speeds: mostly moderate

  • Wind gusts: peaking at 40–45 km/h

  • No stormy outliers

  • Second half of the month calmer

➡️ Typically Belgian winter weather, without extreme wind phenomena.

☀️ Solar radiation – Limited but variable

The sun was visible in December regularly but briefly.

  • A few days with higher solar radiation, especially mid-December

  • Many days with low values due to cloud cover and short days

  • At the end of December, a few sunnier moments again

➡️ As expected in December, solar radiation remained limited, but not completely absent.

🌤️ UV index – Very low, typical for winter

The UV index remained very low throughout the month..

  • Mostly 0 to 0.5

  • Only sporadic slight increases in clearer weather

  • No health risk from UV radiation

➡️ Completely normal for December at our latitude.

🏭 Air quality – Variable, sometimes moderate to poor

Air quality in December 2025 showed large daily fluctuations, which is typical for winter months.

The trend was strongly influenced by wind strength, precipitation and atmospheric stability.

Overview by quality level
  • 🟢 Good air quality (green, index 0–50)

These situations mainly occurred on windy or wet days, when the air was well mixed and pollutants were quickly dispersed.

  • 🟠 Moderate air quality (orange, index 51–100)

This was the most common level in December.

Often during calm, dry weather with little vertical air mixing.

  • 🔴 Poor air quality (red, index >100)

Several clear peaks occurred during cold, calm and dry periods, especially in the second half of the month.

In these situations, fine particulate matter lingered longer due to inversion and calm winds.

Important findings
  • Poor air quality was almost always associated with low wind

  • Precipitation and wind quickly led toi mprovement

  • No prolonged extreme pollution period, but there were repeated short peaks

➡️ December 2025 once again demonstrates how crucial weather conditions are for air quality, especially in winter.

📌 Conclusion

December 2025 was a mild, fairly dry and often cloudy winter month, characterised by:

  • Above-average temperatures

  • Limited precipitation, concentrated at the beginning of the month

  • Regular but not extreme winds

  • Low solar radiation and UV values

  • Variable air quality, with some poorer periods during calm weather

There was hardly any real winter weather.

December 2025 fits perfectly into the picture of mild Western European winters, where classic cold is becoming increasingly rare.
