January 2024: Remarkable Differences and Predominantly Sunny
Statistically, January 2024 is considered a fairly typical January month, but the month has shown various facets. From extremely mild and rainy winter weather to a true winter period with snow and low temperatures. With an average temperature of 4.1 degrees, slightly below the normal average of 3.7 degrees, January ultimately turned out to be a bit cooler than usual. Particularly the second week of January was cold, with three consecutive wintry days. The lowest temperature in Tielt was also measured during this period: on 10 January, the mercury dropped to -6.3 degrees. The highest temperature was recorded on 24 January, at 12.9 degrees.
Slightly Wetter than Average
The month began with similar weather to that with which 2023 ended: mild and rainy winter weather. On New Year's Day, there was a significant amount of rain, and on 2 January, we recorded no less than 25.4 mm of precipitation in Tielt. Also, in the days that followed, there was regular precipitation due to a south-west wind bringing showers or rain areas. However, from the second week of January, a colder and drier period set in.
