Welcome to the monthly overview of MeteoTielt - Weather Station Tielt.
July 2025 brought a typical Belgian summer weather pattern to Tielt, with summer warmth, some extreme highs, and a striking mix of sun, wind, and rain. From heatwaves to cool nights, and from dry days to sudden heavy showers – this month had it all.
🌡Temperature trends
July started with a bang: on1 Julya temperature of37.9°Cwas recorded – the highest temperature of the month and the start of a short heatwave.
On average, the temperature clocked in at19.4°C, slightly above the normal July average.
Temperatures dropped after that first week but remained summery with maxima between23°C and 30°C. Notably, there was a warm period between17 and 19 July, after which the weather became a bit more stable. Nightly minima dropped to11.5°C, which made for pleasant nights.
🌧 Precipitation
Despite a predominantly dry month, a total of75.18 mmof rain fell, spread over12 days..
The precipitation was mainly concentrated on6 Julyand21 July., with more than 25 mm in a short period each time. The rest of the month saw light, scattered showers. Despite the peaks, the total precipitation remained around the seasonal average.
💨Wind:
The wind in July was erratic, with peaks of38.6 km/h.
On6th, 14th and 20th Julythe highest wind speeds were recorded. In between, it was calmer, but the month maintained a dynamic character with regularly changing wind strengths — typical for a summer with varying systems.
Sunshine and UV index:
🌞Sunshine:
In total, the sun shone for 198.7 hours in July above Tielt. This is slightly below the monthly average for Flanders, which typically ranges between 210 and 220 hours. Nevertheless, there were many days with high sunshine duration, mainly between 1st and 5th July and again around 16th to 18th July.
Notably, there were several days with much lower sunshine duration, such as on 6th July, 20th July and 28th July, where solar radiation clearly decreased. This dip is also visually confirmed in the graph, which shows the strength of sunshine (possibly in kWh/m² or a comparable unit) per day. The orange bars clearly mark the days with significantly lower radiation.
🔆 UV radiation
The UV index — a measure of the intensity of ultraviolet radiation from the sun — remained generally high, typical for the month of July. Most days were between 5.5 and 7, which means that sun protection such as sunscreen and hats were absolutely necessary.
There are also some interesting dips here, particularly on 6 July, 20 July, and to a lesser extent on 28 July. These same days coincided with lower sunshine duration, indicating cloud cover or precipitation at those times. The graph clearly shows how these days stand out due to their lower UV values (orange instead of red), while the rest of the month maintains high values.
🌫Air Quality:
Air quality varied significantly in July. Particularly on1, 2, 11, 13, and 14 July, it was moderate to poor (orange values).
Conversely, periods such as4–9 Julyandafter 20 July, experienced better air quality (green zones), likely aided by wind and precipitation.
The pattern showed a clear rhythm of alternating good and poor air, which fits the variable weather pattern of this month.
📌Conclusion
July 2025 in Tielt was a month of contrasts: starting hot, then summery and changeable. The temperature was slightly above normal, the sun shone regularly but not excessively, and precipitation mainly occurred in heavy bursts.
A typical Belgian summer month then – with a bit of everything, and certainly not a dull affair for weather enthusiasts.
