Temperature Trends
February 2025 in Tielt had variable temperatures, with an average of 4.5°C. The lowest temperature was -3.2°C, resulting in 9 frost days. The warmest day reached a remarkable 17.6°C.
he month began with moderate temperatures and a few frost days. Things turned colder around mid-February, but from Feb. 18, temperatures rose sharply, peaking around Feb. 21-22. The month closed with slightly cooler, but still mild days.
Precipitation:
February 2025 was marked by changeable weather in Tielt, with a total of 54.86 mm of precipitation spread over 14 days. This means that half of the month was wet, while the other half remained dry.
The first few days of February were mostly dry, but from Feb. 8 onward, rain began to increase. Around February 8 and 10, there was a significant amount of precipitation, with some substantial peaks. Then the month had a dry period between February 14 and 20, during which hardly any precipitation was recorded. Toward the end of the month, rain activity increased again, with notable precipitation peaks on Feb. 22 and 26.
Wind:
February was marked by variable wind conditions in Tielt, with some notable peaks in wind speed and different wind directions throughout the month.
Wind Speed
Several fluctuations in wind speed were observed during the month. The maximum wind speed was measured at 38.6 km/h, while gusts up to 40.2 km/h were recorded. The most notable peaks occurred around Feb. 8 and Feb. 24, when wind speeds were significantly higher than average.
The first half of the month showed an alternation between moderate and strong winds, with the days around Feb. 4 and Feb. 8 standing out the most. Midway through the month, wind speeds decreased briefly, only to increase again toward the end of February, with a pronounced peak on Feb. 24.
Wind Directions
In addition to varying wind speeds, wind direction also showed an interesting distribution. The dominant directions during February were from the south and southwest, often indicating softer, moist air currents. During the first half of the month, there were also influences from the northeast, indicating colder air currents.
The scatterplot of wind directions shows that on some days there was a clear shift in the dominant wind direction. Especially in the second half of the month, winds became more stable from the southwest and south, coinciding with the increase in wind speed and gusts.
Sunshine and UV Index:
A Variable Sun Pattern
February was marked by changeable weather in Tielt, with an alternation of sunny and cloudy days. Despite the wintry conditions, the sun was seen for a total of 48.9 hours during the month.
Early February saw a number of sunny days, but also periods of significantly less sunlight. Halfway through the month, the amount of sunshine increased, and late February had some of the sunniest days, as seen by the peaks in the graph.
UV radiation
UV radiation was generally low, as is typical for this time of year. The highest UV index remained around 2, indicating that the sun is still relatively weak but can still affect the skin with prolonged exposure. Toward the end of the month, UV radiation gradually increased, heralding the approach of spring.
Air Quality:
February was marked by variable air quality in Tielt. The month began with moderate to poor air quality, peaking on Feb. 3. For the first half of the month, air quality remained on the high side, with notably poor days on Feb. 10 and 14.
Beginning in the second half of February, a slight improvement began to be noticeable, although there were still fluctuations. The days around Feb. 20 saw another increase in air pollution, possibly due to low winds and temperature inversions.
After Feb. 23, we saw a marked recovery in air quality, with Feb. 25 and 27 even having the best air values of the entire month. This may be related to changing meteorological conditions, such as more wind and precipitation that removed pollutant particles from the air.
Conclusion
February 2025 was a month of contrasts in Tielt. Winter still made its presence felt for a while with frost days and cold spells, but toward the end of the month we got an early spring glow with rising temperatures and more sunshine. Precipitation was variable, with both wet and dry periods, and winds asserted themselves with some notable spikes in speed and direction.
Air quality showed wide fluctuations, with poor days in the first half of the month and marked improvement toward the end. This underscores the importance of real-time monitoring and deliberate measures to reduce air pollution.
All in all, February was a dynamic month that perfectly illustrated the transition from winter to spring. The weather showed how quickly conditions can change, and how important it is to be prepared. On to spring! 🌸
