December 2023: Hot and wet

Despite a rather cold start, December will go down in the database as a warm festive month. The average temperature in Tielt is 7.3 degrees compared to 4.2 degrees normal. With 107.70 mm against 87 normal it was a wet December and it was very gloomy with 15.3 hours of sunshine against 58 normal.

December started off quite wintry with -5.4 on Saturday December 2, the coldest day of the year in Tielt. We not only had to deal with frost, but also with winter precipitation. On Sunday, December 3, Tielt even turned a little white for a very short period.

And it became mild for the rest of December. From December 9 it was mild both at night and during the day. The night temperatures were especially high with minimum temperatures around or above 5 degrees. And during the day the temperature fluctuated around 10 degrees on most days.

Furthermore, most days were soaking wet with heavy and prolonged rainfall. And otherwise there were numerous showers that passed over Tielt. The rain gauges were therefore regularly well filled. Ultimately, the precipitation sum in Tielt amounts to 107.70 mm compared to 87 mm normally.
